BEST IN SHOW | A PGC CLUB SHOW

Q: Who the heck is Monty?
A: I’m Monty! In 2025, I became the first Giant Schnauzer in history to win Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show — the most prestigious prize in the dog show world!
I’ve been described as “a really cool dog… spirited, bold, cocky, and fun” — and I’m proud to be the official muse for the Piedmont Garden Club’s Best in Show flower show.
Since retiring from the dog show circuit, I’ve decided to volunteer my time inspiring the talented PGC members to jump into the exciting world of (flower) show competition!

Q: I’m excited to enter the show! Where can I find more details?
A: There are many ways to participate! We have five divisions: Floral Design, Horticulture, Photography, Botanical Art, and Needle Art. Each division includes specific “classes” of entry.
Full descriptions will be included in The Schedule, available in early September. This document will explain all the classes and how to sign up. In the meantime, brief class descriptions will be posted on the website by mid-May.
Questions or ideas? Reach out to Co-Chairs Sara Kimball and Lindsey Meyersieck — they’d love to hear from you!

Q: I’ve never entered — or even been to — a flower show! Help! I’m nervous!
A: You’re not alone! This fall, the Division Chairs will host a workshop called “Demystifying Flower Shows.”
Many classes can be entered with a friend or mentor who has experience. Plus, every class will have a designated “consultant” to support you every step of the way. You’ve got this!

Q: I’d like to help with the show. How can I get involved?
A: Wonderful! The Best in Show Committee is counting on all hands (and paws) on deck. Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Hom will be reaching out to the membership in the fall.

Q: Can my family come see the show?
A: Yes! Bring your spouse or a guest to the Preview Party on the evening of April 8. The show will also be open to the public on April 9 from 10:00 AM–2:00 PM.
Preliminary Schedule:
April 8, 2026
8:00–9:15 AM – Set Up
9:30–11:45 AM – Floral & Cut Specimen Passing
11:00–12:15 PM – Judges & Clerks Briefing and Lunch
12:30–3:30 PM – Judging
6:00–8:00 PM – Preview Party
April 9, 2026
8:00–9:30 AM – Refresh Exhibits
10:00 AM–2:00 PM – Show Open to Friends and Guests
2:00 PM – Take Down

Q: Monty, why is the Piedmont Garden Club hosting this show?
A: Because flower shows are fun, inspiring, and a great way to learn something new! They’re a chance to be creative, collaborate, and celebrate the beauty of nature.

I hope you’ll romp with me, Monty, for a little off-leash fun in the year ahead!
